Selection Information

Please note that selection will be done at County level so please allow any of the young people in your charge to apply. Leaders, Line Managers and District Commissioners have the opportunity of endorsing an application or not but please do return all applications.
Leader selection days
  • Sunday 21st June 2009 - Denmead Scout HQ
  • Sunday 5th July 2009 - Aldershot Runways End

Applications must be in by 29th May 2009

Participants selection weekend
  • Friday 30th October to Sunday 1st November 2009 - Wickham Lyons Copse

Applications must be in by 30th September 2009

We are looking for participants who will benefit most from this once-in-a-lifetime experience, as well as team players and leaders. The Jamboree is not a reward, or a prize for the brightest, fittest, and best Scout, and it’s important to think of it as a development experience for young people.

For Leaders, we are looking for adults who will help the young people get the most out of the experience – as well as the qualities described above for participants.

Our young people, including ex Jamboree participants as well as Leaders including ex Jamboree Leaders will be closely involved in the actual selection.

Support

We aim to provide a County support team for the Units to supply support from administration to camp set-up and cooking to selection of Unit Leaders and participants. This team will be hand picked by the County ACC management for Jamboree support.

  • Paul Shutt, ACC Explorer Scouts - Team Leader, responsible for selection venues and selection programme
  • Adam Jollans. ACC International - International support and selection Team & Leadership Challenges.
  • Ray Noice, CSNC - Promotion and Admin support backed by the County Office team

If you are interested in joining JUST (Jamboree Unit Support Team), please do get in touch.

Essential Applicant Information

Contingent

Contingents are the representative national groups that come to the World Scout Jamboree. They are composed of Participants, Unit Leaders/Assistant Leaders, IST (International Service Crew) and Contingent Staff - there is one contingent per Country. You will be part of the UK Contingent.

Contingent Unit

Each UK Unit is made up of one Unit Leader with three Assistant Leaders and 36 participants. Hampshire Scouting will be supporting 3 contingent Units, one of which will be a joint Unit with Isle of Wight Scouting.

Participants

A participant at the Jamboree (current Scouts and Explorer Scouts) must have turned 14 years, but not have turned 18years at the start of the camp. So they need to have been born between 25th July 1993 and 27th July 1997. You can apply to be a participant via the Unit Participant form. Participants, their parent/guardian and section Leader should understand that a participant will be asked to commit a great deal of time training and planning during evenings, days and weekends.

Leader

A Leader at the Jamboree must have turned 18 years at the start of the camp. You can apply via the Unit Leader form. Be under no illusions, leading a Jamboree Unit involves a great deal of hard work and responsibility. Leaders and Assistant Leaders, their parent/guardian and/or partner and Scouting line Manager should understand that Unit Leaders will be asked to commit a great deal of time training and planning during evenings, days and weekends.

However, the experience should be a hugely rewarding with plenty of fun and everlasting friendships.

Time Commitment:

Applicants should be aware that members would be required to commit time before, during and after the event. They will be required to attend planning meetings and work on their own initiative, often in geographical isolation. The event will require approximately 3 weeks off work in the summer of 2011.

Jamboree Dates:

27 July 2011 to 7 August 2011 There will also be a 2-3 day pre Jamboree experience and the Jamboree will be followed by HoHo.

HoHo:

Home Hospitality - a further 3 days exploring more of Sweden or another Country usually staying with a host family.

Cost:

The UK fee for the Jamboree is not yet available. Whilst it is recognised that this is an important element it is unlikely that this will be available for some months. We aim to produce a "no more than" fee by end June.

We would expect to find some financial support from County and Districts. Units and individuals will be expected to plan and support fundraising initiatives.
